Creative industry hub
The main idea of the project is to transform the district into a new creative industry area. It would be a place where citizens of Cesis can come up with their business ideas and with a support of local start up organisation establish new small company. Creative park is a place where local craftmans and artists can meet together and share experiences. This mix will result in vibrant and inspiring public space where a lot variety events can take place. Creative industry park is active during all year, dedicated to local people and their needs but also accessible for tourists.
Cesis is a already city with rich history and wide range of cultural background. We want to take an advantage of Cesis business support strategy, over 400 000 visitors per year, good infrastructure and high level of vocational education. Majority of tourist attractions and festivals are placed on the west side. Railway track is imaginery border of the city. East side mainly consist of industrial areas. Creative industry park is a hybrid of both.

Idea
The design proposal combines industrial character of existing architecture with freedom of art and music. Three independent, yet cohabiting organisations are organised around central point of the building - spiral staircase. This circular shape was inspired by stack of vinyls and the way that disk spins inside the gramophone. This dynamic element will stand in contrast with orthogonal surroundings, being remarkable, common element for all levels. It will connect functions within the building and symbolize the fact that music can bring together people from different backgrounds, professions and nationalities.

Saw-tooth roof above the extension highlights industrial character of the district, but in a new, modern way. The orange perforated panels inside the steel frame limit the amount of direct light and respond to the colour of red brick neighborhood.It can be realised in the last stage of longterm factory refurbishment.
